A magnetic vent mount lets you dock your phone in under a second with one hand, which matters more than it sounds like once it’s part of your daily routine. The tradeoff is that hold strength depends entirely on magnet quality and whether your case has a MagSafe-compatible ring — a weak magnet or a thick case can mean a phone that shifts on rough roads.

Clamp mounts: slower, but mechanically certain

A spring-loaded clamp takes two hands and a couple of seconds longer, but once it’s closed, it’s not coming off without you opening it again. For rougher roads, bikes, or anyone who has had a magnetic mount let go once, that certainty is worth the extra second.
