iOttie Easy One Touch Signature CD Slot Mount Review: A Great Cradle, If You Still Have a CD Slot

3.9 · Would Buy
TINY TECH BOX SCORE

Still got a CD slot you never use? This mount turns it into the best place in the car for your phone.

iOttie’s one-touch cradle is one of the best phone-grabbing mechanisms on any car mount, and this version anchors it in the CD slot instead of on a suction cup or a vent. Your windshield stays clear and the dashboard stays cool. There’s a catch in the name, though: your car has to have a CD slot.

One-sentence verdict: Buy it if your car has a CD slot and you want the best one-handed cradle on a mount that leaves the windshield alone; skip it if you have no CD slot, or a non-standard one.

Pros and cons

Pros
  • ✓The one-touch cradle is the reason to buy an iOttie. Press the phone in and the arms close, tap the release and they spring open, one-handed, every time.
  • ✓Anchoring it in the CD slot keeps the windshield clear and nothing stuck to the dashboard, and it stays cool, because it isn’t baking in the sun on the glass.
  • ✓Self-centring arms and an adjustable foot handle big phones and thick cases without a fight.
  • ✓The head swivels, so you can set portrait or landscape at a comfortable angle.
Cons
  • ✗It only works if your car has a CD slot, and plenty of cars built in the last several years don’t.
  • ✗Slot sizes vary, and a loose or shallow one can let the mount sag or vibrate.
  • ✗It’s a passive cradle, with no wireless charging and no magnets.
  • ✗A CD-slot mount sits low and in the middle, which some drivers will find a worse line of sight than a windshield mount.

The review

Design and build quality

A rubbery wedge slides into the CD slot, and a lever cams it tight. From there, an arm rises to the iOttie cradle head.

The cradle is the familiar Easy One Touch design, with a spring-loaded trigger at the back that closes the side arms when you push the phone in. It’s solidly built, as iOttie mounts are, with firm plastics, a lever that locks positively and a swivel that holds its position.

Setup and ease of use

Push the connector into the CD slot, flip the lever and adjust the angle of the arm. It takes less than a minute and leaves no residue.

Getting the phone in and out is the whole point of it: one hand, every time, in portrait or landscape.

Performance

In a car with a firm, standard CD slot, it’s one of the most stable mounts you can fit, because it’s wedged into the dashboard itself and isn’t relying on suction, glue or a flimsy plastic vent fin to stay put. No heat creep. No blocked view. The cradle grabs any phone, with or without a case.

How stable it is depends entirely on your slot. A tight one is excellent, while a worn or shallow one lets the mount nod over bumps. There’s no charging, either.

Durability and warranty

iOttie’s Easy One Touch cradle mechanism has years of history behind it and holds up well, with the trigger spring being the part that eventually softens. Several thousand ratings average 4.5 stars. That fits a mount that lasts. There’s a limited warranty, though the listing doesn’t print the term.

Price and value

At $24.95, it’s priced like iOttie’s other Easy One Touch mounts. A long-arm suction mount from VICSEED or TORRAS costs about the same and works in any car, while a magnetic vent charger like the ESR HaloLock is cheaper and adds charging.

The value here is very specific. If you have a CD slot you never use, this turns it into a rock-solid, cool mounting point that keeps your windshield clear, with iOttie’s best cradle on top. If you don’t have a CD slot, spend the money on a suction or magnetic mount instead.

Got a CD slot? This is the mount to get, because the cradle is excellent and the anchor is cool and stable. No CD slot? The same cradle comes on iOttie’s suction mount, or you can switch to a magnetic ESR HaloLock that charges as well.

Who should buy it?

Buy it if
  • ✓Your car has a CD slot you never use.
  • ✓You want a one-handed cradle on a mount that stays cool and out of your line of sight.
  • ✓You don’t need wireless charging in the car.
Skip it if
  • ✗Your car has no CD slot, or a slot-loading or non-standard one.
  • ✗You want a magnetic mount or wireless charging.
  • ✗You want the phone mounted high, close to eye level.

Final verdict

It takes the best cradle mechanism in car mounts and anchors it somewhere that stays cool, holds firm and never blocks your view. In a car with a solid CD slot, it’s one of the most trouble-free mounts you can fit, and the 4.5-star average backs that up.

The reservation is the obvious one. If your car has no CD slot, or a worn or oddly shaped one, this mount is either useless or wobbly, and for those cars, iOttie’s own suction version gives you the same cradle while a magnetic ESR HaloLock adds charging. If the CD slot is there, though, it’s easy to recommend.

Frequently asked questions

You need a standard horizontal front-loading CD slot. Slot-loading head units, cars with no CD player and some aftermarket stereos with unusually shaped slots won’t work, so check before you buy.

No. It’s a passive cradle, with no wireless charging and no magnets, so you’ll need a cable if you want to charge on the move.

Yes. The self-centring arms and adjustable bottom foot are designed for large phones and thick cases.

The connector is rubberised and cams into place without any adhesive. It shouldn’t damage a standard slot, though a very tight fit can scuff the lip of the slot over time.

Yes. The head swivels, so you can set portrait or landscape and adjust the angle.
