The head is flat, with ten sets of N52 magnets, and it sits on a short telescopic arm above a sticky-gel suction base. The mount feels sturdy. The base grips smooth surfaces well, and you can reuse it.
The magnetic head is what divides people. iOttie doesn’t publish a pull-force figure, and owner reports run all the way from “rock solid” to “not strong enough“, probably depending on how heavy the phone is and whether there’s a case between the phone and the magnet.
Press the suction base onto a smooth spot on the dash or windshield, extend the arm and set the angle on the ball joint. Then snap on a MagSafe phone.
For a phone without MagSafe, stick the included ring on first, and take your time placing it, because once the adhesive grabs, the ring won’t move.
The best thing about it is how easy it is to use with one hand. You put the phone on, and you take it off. That’s it.
