ESR OmniLock Review: A 25W Car Charger That Comes With the Right Adapter

3.6 · Would Buy
TINY TECH BOX SCORE

Fast wireless charging in a car tends to fall down in two places: the heat from the sun and the dashboard, and a car socket that can’t supply enough power.

ESR’s OmniLock tackles both. There’s a cooling fan behind the pad, and the box includes a 58W car adapter that can actually feed the 25W Qi2.2 charger. The catch? It’s a vent mount, and not every vent suits it.

Version reviewed: ESR OmniLock Magnetic Car Charger (25W, CryoBoost, Air Vent), Black · ASIN B0F6CPCZWJ · Amazon US listing · ESR lists this ASIN as the product’s SKU

One-sentence verdict: A stable, strong and properly fast vent charger, and the included adapter means you’ll really get 25W; check your vents first, though, because round, hidden and bladeless vents won’t work, and one owner reports cracked vent blades.

The review

Design and build quality

It’s a magnetic charging pad on an aluminium arm, clamped to a vent blade with a metal hook.

A curved silicone pad cushions the vent, and a locking nut is there to stop you overtightening it. The arm turns 360° and the ball joint tilts 60°, and behind the pad sits a small CryoBoost fan.

Setup and ease of use

Fitting it takes a couple of minutes. Hook it on the blade, tighten the nut, and plug the cable into the included adapter. Owners call it easy, and AppleWorld Today found it stable on everything but the roughest roads.

Power is the detail that matters. As 9to5Mac points out, it needs at least 35W of input to charge at 25W, and a typical built-in car USB port won’t supply that, so use the USB-C port on the adapter that comes with it.

And check your vents before you buy. The hook fits blades 10–32 mm wide and 1–4 mm thick, and ESR says round, bladeless, irregular and hidden vents won’t work; that’s exactly why AppleWorld Today’s reviewer prefers mounts with other ways to attach.

Performance

The magnets are strong, the phone stays put, and owners describe it as stable even on bumpy roads.

On supported phones, it’s quick: 25W on the iPhone 17, 18, 18 Pro and 16 Pro Max (iOS 26) and on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, 20W on the iPhone Air, 16 and 16 Pro, and 15W on older iPhones. Owners also report it working well with Pixel 10 phones. For the best hold, use a MagSafe or ESR magnetic case under 2 mm thick.

Cooling helps, up to a point. Owners report phones staying cool on long navigation runs, but one Pixel 10 Pro XL owner found the little fan couldn’t keep up with direct sun on a hot day. That’s what happens to a phone sitting in a sunny windscreen. It isn’t a fault.

Durability and warranty

Most owners say it’s held up through daily driving. There are two warning signs, both from the same owner: one unit died after 30 days and was replaced under warranty, and it cracked vent blades in two different cars. The overtightening protection is supposed to prevent that, so go gently on older or fragile vents. ESR gives a 12-month protection plan, extendable to 24 months by registering.

Price and value

At $56.99, it’s expensive for a car mount, but that price includes a 58W dual-port car adapter and a cable, which you’d otherwise have to buy separately to get 25W. If your vents suit it, it’s good value. Happy with 15W? ESR’s HaloLock 15W car charger costs far less.

Flat vent blades and a wish for the fastest charging? Get the OmniLock. ESR’s HaloLock 15W does the same job more slowly for much less money, and if your vents won’t take a clamp, go for a dashboard mount like iOttie’s.

Who should buy it?

Buy it if
  • ✓You use navigation on long drives and want the phone charging fast.
  • ✓Your car has flat vent blades within ESR’s size range.
  • ✓You have an iPhone 16 or later, a Galaxy S26 Ultra or a Pixel 10.
Skip it if
  • ✗Your vents are round, hidden or bladeless.
  • ✗Your vent slats feel flimsy.
  • ✗You only need a magnetic holder, not a charger.

Final verdict: is the ESR OmniLock 25W Car Charger worth it?

If your car suits it, the OmniLock is one of the best car chargers you can buy. It’s stable, the magnets are strong, it charges at full Qi2.2 speed, and ESR puts the adapter you need for that speed in the box. Independent reviewers at 9to5Mac and AppleWorld Today both recommend it.

Every reservation comes back to vents. It only fits certain blades, and one owner’s broken slats are a reminder to tighten it carefully. Any doubt about your vents? A dashboard mount is the safer choice.
