iPhone Duo in Star White and Night Sky, open and closed

Want an iPhone Duo in November? Best Buy has them, but only on AT&T or Verizon

Apple’s own store is quoting a long wait for a new iPhone Duo order, but Best Buy can still get one to you in early November. There’s a catch, though: Best Buy only sells the Duo on AT&T or Verizon. There’s no unlocked version, so if you’re on T-Mobile, a prepaid carrier, or you just want a phone that isn’t tied to anyone, this isn’t your route.

When will a Best Buy iPhone Duo arrive?

Nov 10

That’s the shipping and store-pickup date Best Buy showed on October 18 for the 512GB iPhone Duo, in both Night Sky and Star White, on AT&T and on Verizon. Some search listings showed “on or shortly after November 3.” The 256GB, 1TB and 2TB models showed December 14, so if you want November, 512GB is the size to pick.

Compare that with Apple. When we checked Apple’s store on launch day, October 16, new orders were quoting late January 2027 for every size and colour (here’s what happened). Best Buy’s date is roughly two and a half months sooner.

Dates depend on your store and ZIP code, and they’re moving fast. Ours came from a store in northern Virginia. Check the date Best Buy shows you at checkout before you rely on it.

The catch: AT&T or Verizon only

Every iPhone Duo on Best Buy’s site is an AT&T or a Verizon model. The carrier picker on the product page has just those two options, and searching Best Buy for an unlocked Duo only brings back the same carrier listings.

That matters in three ways:

  • You have to activate it on that carrier. Even if you pay the full price up front, Best Buy’s “Activate Today” option means connecting the phone to an AT&T or Verizon line when you buy it, either a new line or by upgrading one you already have.
  • It won’t be unlocked when it arrives. The phone is tied to the carrier you bought it on. You can’t take it home and put a T-Mobile SIM in it.
  • Unlocking it later takes time. AT&T’s rules say the phone has to be paid off and active for at least 60 days before it can be unlocked. Verizon has its own unlocking policy. Either way, a phone ordered now won’t be unlocked before the new year.

If you travel abroad and use a local SIM or a travel eSIM, that last point is the one to think about. A locked phone won’t take another carrier’s SIM until the unlock goes through.

Who should order from Best Buy

It’s a good deal if you’re already on AT&T or Verizon and planning to stay. You were going to use the phone on that carrier anyway, so the lock costs you nothing, and you get your Duo in November instead of January. Best Buy also runs its own carrier trade-in offers, so check those while you’re there.

Skip it if:

  • You’re on T-Mobile, a prepaid plan, or a smaller carrier.
  • You’re thinking about switching carriers in the next few months.
  • You want an unlocked phone for travel or resale value.
  • You want 256GB, 1TB or 2TB. Those showed December 14 at Best Buy, not November.

For an unlocked Duo, you still need to buy from Apple. Keep that order, and keep checking Apple Store pickup in the morning. Store pickup slots can open up even while delivery still says January.

How to order from Best Buy

  • Pick 512GB. That’s the size that showed November dates. Choose your colour, then your carrier.
  • Have your carrier account ready. If you’re upgrading an existing line, you’ll need your AT&T or Verizon login and to be eligible for an upgrade.
  • Read the date at checkout, not just the search page. The search results and the product page didn’t always agree. The date in your cart is the one that counts.
  • Don’t cancel your Apple order yet. If you already have a January order with Apple, keep it until the Best Buy phone is in your hands, then cancel the Apple one from your account before it ships.

What about cases and screen protectors?

If your Duo arrives in November, you can order a case now and still be inside most return windows when it lands. Our iPhone Duo case and screen protector picks are all made for the Duo, and our iPhone Duo accessories guide covers chargers and the rest. The carrier version is the same phone as the unlocked one, so the same cases fit.

Common questions

Can I buy an unlocked iPhone Duo at Best Buy?

No. When we checked on October 18, every iPhone Duo listing at Best Buy was an AT&T or Verizon model. For an unlocked Duo, buy from Apple.

Can I pay full price at Best Buy and get it unlocked?

No. Paying the full price up front still means activating the phone on AT&T or Verizon. It stays locked to that carrier until it meets the carrier’s unlocking rules. For AT&T, that means paid off and active for at least 60 days.

Which iPhone Duo arrives soonest at Best Buy?

The 512GB model, in either colour, on either carrier. It showed November 10, and some listings showed November 3. The other sizes showed December 14.

Does a Verizon or AT&T iPhone Duo use the same cases?

Yes. The carrier models are the same hardware as the unlocked phone, so any iPhone Duo case or screen protector fits.
