iPhone Duo delivery slips to January 2027: line up at an Apple Store on October 23
iPhone Duo pre-orders opened at 5 a.m. Pacific this morning, and within hours Apple’s U.S. store was quoting delivery in late January 2027 for every configuration. If you want a Duo this year, your best chance is no longer the website. It’s the line outside an Apple Store next Friday, October 23.

Update, October 18: Best Buy is showing November delivery for the 512GB iPhone Duo, but only on AT&T or Verizon, with no unlocked model. Here’s the catch.
When will a new iPhone Duo order arrive?
Jan 25, 2027
That’s the date Apple’s U.S. store showed for a new order on the afternoon of October 16, in both colours and all four storage sizes (256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB). We saw it ourselves on a Night Sky 256GB order, and MacRumors reported the same date across the board. Some buyers saw January 29. In Brazil, estimates have already reached early February.
The phone itself is not delayed. Launch day is still Friday, October 23 in the U.S. and more than 70 other countries, with 28 more following on October 30. What’s gone is launch-day delivery for anyone who didn’t check out in the first few minutes.
How it slipped
The slide happened fast. Over the morning, estimates that started at October 23 moved into November, then December, then January. Later in the day they stopped moving and settled on January 25. Macworld called it the furthest it has ever seen iPhone pre-orders slip.
Apple called demand “nothing short of extraordinary” and said it is working to get the phone to customers as quickly as possible. It hasn’t said how many units it had at launch, so there’s no way to tell how much of the wait is demand and how much is supply. Either way, the result for a buyer is the same.
Resellers moved in straight away. Listings on eBay and X are asking $5,000 to $10,000 for a phone that starts at $1,999.
Our advice: go stand in line on October 23
If you’d rather not wait three months, plan to be outside an Apple Store before it opens next Friday. Here’s why that’s a better bet than refreshing the website:
- Store stock is separate. Apple gives each store its own allocation of phones, so a store can have Duos on the shelf even while online delivery says January. MacRumors expects some stores to have stock for walk-in buyers on launch day.
- Online pickup is closed until Saturday. Apple’s store currently tells buyers to check back on October 24 for pickup slots. On launch day itself, walking in is the only way to buy one at an Apple Store.
- The first people in line get first pick. Stock will be tight and will run out by configuration, not all at once. Being early is the difference between your colour and whatever’s left.
To be clear about the odds: Apple hasn’t promised any walk-in stock, and every store will be different. Lining up is a real chance, not a guarantee. But it’s the best chance anyone has of a Duo in October.
How to line up smart
- Keep your online pre-order. Don’t cancel a January order until you’re holding a phone. If you get one in store, cancel the online order afterwards from your Apple account before it ships.
- Check the opening time the night before. Launch-day hours can differ from normal hours. Look up your store in the Apple Store app and plan to arrive well before the doors open.
- Pick a backup configuration. Decide in advance which colour and storage size you’ll take if your first choice is gone, so you don’t lose your turn deciding at the counter.
- Sort carrier and trade-in at home. Know your carrier, have your account login ready, and if you’re trading in, back up and update your old phone the night before. Bring photo ID and your payment method.
- Dress for the wait. Charge your current phone, bring a battery pack, water and a layer. It’s late October.
There’s a small bonus for U.S. store buyers too. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple Stores can personalise a Duo’s first setup screen with the buyer’s name, in English or Spanish. It’s only available to people who buy the Duo in a U.S. store.
If you can’t make it to a store
- Check pickup from Saturday morning. Pickup slots open on October 24. Check the Apple Store app early each morning, as availability updates through the morning. Pickup stock may open up even while delivery still says January.
- Try your carrier. AT&T and T-Mobile are taking Duo pre-orders too, and they may quote different dates from Apple’s.
- Skip the resellers. Paying $5,000 or more for a phone that starts at $1,999 at Apple isn’t worth it, especially with store stock still to come.
What about cases and screen protectors?
If you get one on launch day, you’ll want a case on it before you leave the store. A folding phone is expensive to repair, and the hinge is the part that takes the knocks. Our iPhone Duo case and screen protector picks are all made for the Duo, and our iPhone Duo accessories guide covers chargers and the rest.
If you’re waiting for January, don’t order a case today. Most return windows will close long before your phone arrives, and you won’t be able to check the fit until then. Bookmark your choice and order it in early January.
Common questions
Is the iPhone Duo delayed?
No. The phone still launches on Friday, October 23. Only new online orders have slipped, to an estimated delivery date of January 25, 2027 in the U.S.
Will Apple Stores have the iPhone Duo on launch day?
Some probably will, but Apple hasn’t confirmed walk-in stock, and each store gets its own allocation. Arriving before opening gives you the best chance.
Should I cancel my January pre-order?
Not until you have a phone in hand. Keep it as your backup and cancel it if you get one in store or through pickup.
When can I reserve an in-store pickup?
Apple’s store says pickup slots open on Saturday, October 24. Check the Apple Store app early in the morning.
