ESR Camera Lens Protector Review: The Rare Cheap Accessory That Just Works

4.3 · Would Buy
TINY TECH BOX SCORE

The ESR Camera Lens Protector is the rare cheap accessory that just works. For around $8 it puts scratch-resistant glass over the most expensive lenses on an iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max, and the alignment tool makes a clean install almost automatic. The only real caveat is the one that applies to any lens glass: a faint chance of flare in night shots.

One-sentence verdict: Buy it if you want cheap, easy-to-fit scratch protection over the camera lenses — skip it if you’re worried about any effect on low-light photos or use a case with a very tight camera cutout.

Pros and cons

Pros
  • Installation is genuinely easy — the alignment tool drops each glass ring into place with no bubbles for almost everyone.
  • It protects the most expensive glass on the phone from scratches and desk grit for around $8.
  • The individual-ring design keeps the flash and sensors clear and looks tidy.
  • It sits low enough to work with most cases.
Cons
  • Any glass over a lens can add a faint flare or ghosting in strong point-light night shots — usually invisible, occasionally not.
  • If you damage one ring you generally replace the whole set.
  • A very tight case camera cutout can catch the black rim.
  • It is model-specific — the 17 Pro / Pro Max camera layout differs from other iPhones.

The review

Design and build quality

Separate tempered-glass discs with a black metal rim, each sized to a lens, plus a plastic alignment jig. The build is clean and the rims look like part of the phone rather than an add-on. The anti-reflective coating is there to minimise the one real drawback of lens glass — reflections in night shots.

Setup and ease of use

Peel the backing, seat the jig over the camera bump, and press each ring down. It is about as foolproof as phone-accessory installation gets, and owner reports of bubbles or misalignment are rare.

Performance

For a lens protector, performance is fit, install ease, optical impact and case compatibility. Fit and install are excellent. Optical impact is minimal in normal use; the honest caveat is that any lens glass can introduce a faint flare around bright point lights at night, and ESR’s coating reduces but does not eliminate that. Case compatibility is good with most cases.

Durability and warranty

The glass takes scratches so the lens does not, which is the whole job. If a ring chips, you swap the set. ESR has a replacement policy through its support channel. Its 4.6-star average across more than 6,500 buyers is one of the highest in this category.

Price and value

At $7.99 on Amazon (checked August 26, 2026), this is one of the best-value protective accessories on the site — cheap insurance for the camera glass, which is expensive to repair.

There is little downside at the price beyond the small night-flare caveat. If you are a serious low-light shooter you might skip lens protectors entirely; everyone else should just buy it. We would call it a clear buy at or below $8.

Who should buy it?

Buy it if
  • You have an iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max and want cheap camera-glass protection.
  • You often set the phone down face-up on hard surfaces.
  • You want an install you cannot really mess up.
Skip it if
  • You are a serious low-light photographer and want zero risk of night flare.
  • Your case has a very tight camera cutout.
  • You have a different iPhone model.

Final verdict

The ESR Camera Lens Protector is the rare cheap accessory that just works. For around $8 it puts scratch-resistant glass over the most expensive lenses on the phone, the alignment tool makes a clean install almost automatic, and it looks like part of the phone. Its 4.6-star average across more than 6,500 buyers is one of the highest in this category, and deservedly so.

The only real caveat is optical: any glass over a lens can add a faint flare around bright point lights at night, and ESR’s anti-reflective coating reduces but does not fully remove that. If you are not a dedicated night shooter, that is a non-issue, and this is an easy recommendation.
