AirPods 5 may be the quieter announcement at Apple’s September 9 event. In its August 31 preview, 9to5Mac cites Mark Gurman’s reporting that refreshed entry-level earbuds could appear, with separate versions offering and omitting active noise cancellation.
The camera rumors belong on a different timeline
The same article says Gurman places camera-equipped AirPods in 2027. That distinction matters: a story about Apple exploring more ambitious earbuds is not evidence that every rumored feature will arrive with AirPods 5.
What remains uncertain
9to5Mac describes H3 as a possibility rather than a settled specification, and says the available details are limited. Its coverage also reports that Gurman does not expect the heart-rate sensor from AirPods Pro 3 in this update. MacRumors’ September 4 preview notes references to AirPods 5 in a macOS release candidate, strengthening the product-name clue without confirming the full hardware.
