A new A20 Pro rumor suggests Apple could improve both gaming and ordinary phone use without changing how the iPhone looks. AppleInsider’s September 3 report describes a Weibo leak that infers the chip’s layout from solder positions. That is a clue about a possible design, not a finished-device benchmark.
The claimed changes
The report describes a possible seven-core GPU, up from six in the A19 Pro. It also claims the efficiency CPU cores could share 8MB of L2 cache rather than 6MB, while the performance cores retain 16MB. The proposed layout is based on the leaker’s interpretation, so each specification remains unconfirmed.
Why those numbers are only a starting point
Tiny Tech Box’s view: an extra graphics core is interesting, but it does not directly translate into a known frame-rate increase. A phone is a complete system. The useful comparison is what it can sustain in an actual game, at a stated quality setting, after it has been running for a while.
The everyday question
For someone who rarely plays demanding games, we would look for improvements in responsiveness and energy use rather than buy on a core count. The leak is not enough to quantify either. It also offers no verified battery result for an iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max.
What to look for at the event
Apple’s chip presentation should establish the final core configuration and explain its comparison baseline. After that, independent testing can address heat, sustained performance, and battery life. Until those results exist, this is a promising architecture rumor with an unusually specific set of numbers—not a reason to publish a performance score.
