A short grey pigtail: Lightning plug, small inline DAC, 3.5mm socket. The Lightning end goes in with a positive click, and the housing is tougher than Apple’s, so as a physical object, it’s a well-made little thing that should survive being stuffed in a pocket or a bag. When the electronics inside cooperate, anyway.
Plug it in. Plug your headphones in. Because it’s MFi certified, iOS recognises it straight away.
Sound quality is good, and for most owners it matches Apple’s, with working mic and remote controls.
Connection stability is how it fails, and static, audio cutting in and out, and one channel suddenly going silent turn up in so many of the reviews that this is clearly a known pattern with the adapter itself and not just a handful of buyers who happened to be unlucky with the one they received.

The build is good. What varies, and varies a lot, is what’s inside: some owners get years out of it, some report it failing at around a year, and some hear static from day one. UGREEN offers a limited warranty through its support channel.
At $15.99 on Amazon, it undercuts Apple’s official Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter a little and feels better made.
Get a good unit and you’ve saved a bit for an equal or better build, which is a perfectly good deal on a small accessory where Apple’s own version feels flimsy. The static-and-dropout reports are the problem, and they’re common enough to be a real risk. We’d call it a fair buy under about $12, knowing some units will disappoint.
