The magnet is strong enough to hold the phone upright for video, the cable is a generous 2 metres, and the whole thing is about as minimal as a charger can be. The one blemish is a recurring pattern of early failures in owner reports, which isn’t what you expect from Apple hardware.
Plug the USB-C end into an adapter you provide and put the puck against the back of the phone, where it snaps to the centre.
With an iPhone 16 or 17 and a 30W adapter, it’ll negotiate up to 25W. With an older phone or a 20W adapter, you get 15W.
Alignment is perfect, which is the whole point of MagSafe.

At $39.99, you’re paying the Apple premium for a cable and a magnet. A third-party MagSafe-style puck does 15W for much less money, and it often comes with an adapter.

Need a stand? Then a Qi2 3-in-1 is a better use of the money, because it props the phone up and charges your watch and earbuds as well. If you do buy this puck, pair it with a 20W adapter for 15W, or a 30W adapter for 25W on a current iPhone.
